Have you taken the family to visit the Brandywine River Museum located in nearby Chadds Ford? It is a wonderful local museum in a scenic location with many fun programs for families and children. A visit to the Brandywine River Museum is a great way to get children excited about art and to learn about what museums are all about.

Recently, we were guests of the Brandywine River Museum and the kids enjoyed all that it has to offer. The museum has wonderful art to view as well as an outdoor area for children to explore, walk and enjoy. Your family can take in the artwork inside, enjoy a breathtaking view of the Brandywine and then head outdoors to stroll the River Walk or visit some of the fun animal statues on the grounds! The museum has a gift shop as well as a cafe. You can enjoy lunch there, stop for a picnic afterwards at the Brandywine Battlefield or visit one of the many nearby eateries.

The Brandywine River Museum offers free admission on Sunday mornings as well as many fun programs for families. The Arts Alive program offers hands-on and creative fun on the first Sunday of select months. In the summer months, Museum Explorers is a wonderful opportunity for children to have a focused tour of the museum and create a theme-based craft. In the Fall the museum offers Read-Aloud tours as well as Pirate Adventure Day. The seasonal train display is a popular attraction for families as well.

We participated in the Museum Explorers program which was wonderful. We had a short guided tour through the museum based on the week's theme - animals. The kids scouted out different animals in the pictures and shared their thoughts about them. At the end of the tour, we were led to the activity room to participate in a craft based on the theme. The kids used modeling clay to make their animal of choice and then decorated them. It was a great activity, especially after seeing the various animal statues on our walk.

You can look forward to an enjoyable visit to the museum that might just bring out the budding artist in your child!

Try to spot these fun statues along the museum grounds! These are just two of them - you'll see more as you walk the grounds.
