Braces at Age 7?

By West Chester Orthodontics November 25, 2015
Orthodontics can benefit anyone from age 7 to 107! In addition to receiving a beautiful straight smile, orthodontics can make teeth easier to brush and feel better when eating. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that all children see an orthodontist by the age of 7.

At West Chester Orthodontics, we offer every new patient a complimentary initial exam that includes a panoramic x-ray and photographs. From the information gathered, Dr. Christine Ferrell can determine whether or not your child is missing teeth, has extra teeth, has a skeletal jaw issue or a social concern that needs to be addressed. All the adult teeth are still not in at this age and that is why it is the best time to help modify the growth of the patient’s mouth to accommodate their teeth. In certain cases, early treatment can decrease the chance of needing permanent teeth pulled to make space in the mouth. We can also orthopedically correct jaw discrepancies so that the chance of surgery to reposition the jaws in their proper position is reduced. Most patients do not need treatment at age 7; however, if they do, it will make orthodontics a lot easier for them when they are ready for full braces.
