Macaroni Road Trip: Diggerland USA

A Construction-Themed Amusement Park within Driving Distance of Chester County!

June 25, 2014
My family was recently a guest of Diggerland USA, a new construction-themed amusement park about an hour drive from the Chester County area. This amusement park is so much more than construction-themed, it is a chance to have a real hands-on experience driving, operating or riding on real construction trucks like backhoes and excavators.

Our first stop was the Skid-Steers and it ended up being a family favorite. Our youngest could ride as a lap rider and our oldest could drive solo (gasp!), and he did well. This was right next to the Kid Zone playground so we stopped briefly to play. We continued riding and digging and driving for most of the day. Naturally, we took a lunch break, as every hard-working construction worker is entitled to do! Soon after lunch we were able to watch the Backhoe Stunt Show which was performed just behind the picnic pavilion. The kids loved watching the truck go up on two wheels!

We also attempted the Ropes Course which was challenging, but fun. Next door to the course is an awesome rock wall, if you have a little more climb left in you (I did not!).

Here are a few tips, if you plan to travel to Diggerland, USA. It is a very easy ride from Chester County, about an hour drive via the Walt Whitman Bridge. Visitors under 36 inches are admitted free and the rides have at least a 36 inch height requirement. Be sure to know before you go if your littlest ones can participate. There is a Kid Zone playground suitable for little ones as mentioned above, but the rides will be more restricted. In some cases those 36 inchers will be able to ride on a lap, but in some cases they are too little even for that. Kids who are 42 inches can generally ride most rides whether as an operator or a lap rider. Remember to check the guidelines before you visit.

The Dig Inn cafe offers a variety of snacks and meals including soft pretzels, salads, hot dogs, deli sandwiches and pizza. There are plenty of pavilion seats as well as umbrella-covered tables for dining purposes. Diggerland USA also has Birthday Party and Group Rate options available. Diggerland USA has an arcade and gift shop if you need a break from the sun or a little souvenir.

Here are our kids' responses to the question "What was your favorite part of Diggerland?"
  • "Riding the truck with you [Skid Steer]!"
  • "Driving the truck by myself [mini Land Rover]!"
Be prepared for a day of digging and driving fun. There is a lot for families to do and you can easily spend the whole day there. There are even lots of umbrella-covered spots to help you stay cool on a hot East Coast day.
