This is not our grandma’s day. I’m sure you remember, like I do, the times when Grandma would bake something magical that was enjoyed by everybody in the family . . .with no exceptions. It’s amazing to think that those simple ingredients, flour, butter, sugar, and eggs, brought so much joy to so many people.
Unfortunately, due to the many food sensitivities in our day, these same ingredients wreak havoc in the lives of many. Consequently, those magical moments have become rare. That delicious treat that Grandma used to make is often times replaced by something tasteless, gritty, or dry simply because it fit the bill; it didn’t violate any food restrictions. Guess What - - -These food restrictions no longer condemn you to a life of baked goods hell.
Yes, regardless of what you have heard or even what you may have tasted in the past, things have changed! This is a new day! With the introduction of so many new natural sweeteners, flours, oils, flavors, egg replacers and dairy substitutes, the restricted consumer can essentially have what he or she wants.
As an example, many bakers are now able to blend a variety of flours together to give the gluten free consumer cupcakes as tasty and moist as the ones they remember from their gluten days. Likewise, bakers are able to use various products to give those allergic to dairy and eggs something to wow about! The same is true for those requiring low or no sugar options.
Wait . . . it gets better. Gone are the days when multiple desserts were required because of food restrictions. Yippee! Because of all of these amazing ingredients, along with the requisite skills, bakers can now offer a single dessert for the entire family. . . not just one that’s tolerated but one that can make everybody happy.
Ah, the magic of Grandma’s day is back!
