In 2013, when she was nine years of age, Molly Dolan of West Chester started Kids 4 Kids. The idea, simply enough, was to find ways kids could help other kids in need. With the help of friends and family, she organized a yard sale that year and raised a few hundred dollars for local charities.
The yard sale was a success, and Dolan decided to do it again last year, netting $800 for her favorite non-profit organizations. She’s at it again this year, with the largest Kids 4 Kids yard sale yet, set for Saturday, May 21, from 8AM – 1PM at 1084 Forest Road in West Chester. A rain date is set for May 22.
Dolan, a 6th grade student at Peirce Middle School in West Chester, enlisted the help of classmates to make sure this was the biggest yard sale yet, forming a Kids 4 Kids Club at Peirce Middle School in the fall. The students have held frequent meetings throughout the year, working on various activities to help other children in need, and planning for the group’s big yard sale fundraiser.
Today, Dolan’s garage is bursting at the seams with donations she and her classmates have collected from friends, family members, neighbors, and the Peirce school community. And they will all be for sale at the May 21 yard sale, including: baby gear and strollers, toys, sports equipment, video games, electronics, CDs, bikes, books, board games, outdoor toys (including a giant trampoline!) and countless other household items.
Except for some larger ticketed items, all items will be priced as “pay what you feel is fair,” virtually guaranteeing all visitors will walk away having scored a great deal.
Dolan and her Peirce Middle School classmates want visitors to walk away having had a great time as well. In addition to the enormous selection of great bargains, the Kids 4 Kids yard sale will feature a lemonade stand, bake sale, and a moon bounce donated by Boing! Bounce Rentals of Media.
Kids 4 Kids Club members hope the festival feel will bring crowds of shoppers and families to this year’s sale, enabling them to raise even more money for their chosen charities. This year, all funds will go to four charities earmarked by the students: The Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children (West Chester); Chester County Family Academy (West Chester); The Dax Locke Foundation (Washington, IL), and The Birthday Party Project (Addison, TX).
Each of these non-profits provides essential services and support to children and families in need. The students of Kids 4 Kids hope their yard sale will support the mission of these charities as they pursue their own mission: organized by kids, benefitting kids.
So be sure to stop by to score a great deal – and support a great cause! For more information, visit www.kids-4-kids.org.
