Pennsylvania Theatre Institute is a summer performing arts camp at West Chester University. Founded by university professors and working professional theatre artists, our programs include Young Company (ages 8-14), a two-week day camp, and the Pre-College Intensive (for high school students), an immersive on-campus experience.
Our Young Company camp offers students a chance to rotate through various aspects of theatre arts. Each day, kids take classes in acting, improv, voice + movement, and design, all while helping create their own original plays.
Camp will proceed in-person in 2022 with all necessary COVID-19 precautions in place. We are committed to ensuring the safety of your child, as well as our staff and community. We will follow all guidelines as established by the CDC and WCU.
Some activities will take place outdoors. Students will be grouped in pods of twelve. Mask-wearing and social distancing requirements are in place. All camp policies will follow the current guidelines established by the CDC and West Chester University.
"My child has already begged to attend next year. He loved the “class” format and the creativity involved in developing the performances. This was a camp that embraced kids for who they are." - 2021 Young Company parent
"It has been a hard year+, and finding something we could say yes to was such a relief. I felt 100% comfortable with the safety measures that were in place at camp which I was so grateful for. She spoke so highly of all of her teachers and the other campers, and I appreciate how supportive and encouraging all the staff was -- everyone just seemed like the kids' biggest cheerleaders! Now all of our kids want to do it next year." - 2021 Young Company parent
"This is an amazing camp at an affordable price. Worth every penny!! Thank you to all of the staff who put so much thought and attention into all of the details of this two week camp." - 2021 Young Company parent
"Last year's camp was truly transformative for my daughter and the skills, lessons, and confidence she gained have continued. We hope this year's camp is just as beneficial to her, and that her self confidence and theater skills continue to grow." - Returning 2022 Young Company parent, in a note on the registration form!
