Whether developing the next prima ballerina, tik tok dance choreographer or just moving to the beat with a new friend, now is a great time to introduce dance to your preschooler! The Diane Matthews School of Dance Arts Pre-Elementary Program (Pre-E) introduces dance to our youngest dancers in a caring, friendly and age appropriate atmosphere.  Classes include basic technique and creative movement to develop motor skills, and allow students to explore elements of dance in a fun, encouraging way.

Predance and Predance 2 are available options for our youngest dancers 3.5-5 years old.
In Predance, we use our imaginations, creative games and songs to explore movement, develop motor skills and enjoy music. The class includes an introduction to Ballet, tumbling and creative movement.

Combo classes, offered for dancers ages 5-7 begin to offer a deeper dive into specific styles of dance, yet still in an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere. Descriptions are below.

Acro-dance - NEW: Pre-elementary Acro-Dance is a style of dance that combines classical ballet technique with acrobatic elements. Classes offer a wide array of benefits, including increasing strength, flexibility, and coordination in students. While all dance is physical, this form is particularly athletic and has unique choreography due to its use of acrobatics and/or tumbling in a dance environment.

Ballet/Jazz Combo: Includes creative movement and an introduction to Ballet and Jazz techniques. The class has a relaxed atmosphere, which allows children to respond naturally to dance and explore different kinds of movement and music.

Ballet/Tap Combo: This class is an introduction to Ballet and Tap in fun atmosphere. In Ballet, we work on age-appropriate techniques and terms including positions, arm and leg movements; in Tap we work with timing and rhythms. One half-hour is given to each dance style.

Hippity Hop: Beginning rhythm and movement class based on Hip Hop style of dance. Appropriate pop, hip hop and house (fast rhythmic tempo) music is featured.

Business Review

I would return and recommend. Staff is friendly & helpful, class size seem small, so more individual attention.

The energy in the studio is always positive. The instructors care about the students and show that they want to help them learn new dancing skills. And the staff is very helpful.

It is a friendly and welcoming environment to learn dance, which can be quite rare. The instructors are knowledgeable and passionate.

Very encouraging environment. I feel every dancer is embraced for their gift and encouraged and nurtured to be the best they can be.
